In fact, Auburn Hills is 30 miles from Detroit. So many people like you who aren't from Detroit like to assign blame to the fact that these people are from "Detroit," when in reality, the guy who threw the cup was from West Bloomfield, one of the richest cities per capita in the entire country -- this could have happened anywhere with similar circumstances. An ambiguous melee on the court (what fans do you think really saw that cup hit Artest -- most of them probably just saw Artest charging into the stands), alcohol, and a guy charging into the opposing team's fans' area. It has nothing to do with Detroit -- don't assign blame where blame isn't due. Sure, the fans were in the wrong, but the city of Detroit doesn't need its name tarnished any further, especially when it has nothing to do with what happened.
