I know it seems like I’m firmly affixed to J.J. Redick’s jock, but… hey, we all have our favorites. And I think it takes balls for someone as publicly scrutinized as J.J. Redick to make his poetry public. That’s just not something most people would do.

As it is, he takes so much abuse. No one has been as universally hated since Laettner/Hurley. And by opening up his poetry by having it appear on SI.com, or reading it on ESPN, he’s setting himself up for even more public abuse. And he doesn’t seem to care. That takes a lot of courage and self-condifence… which are probably two of the reasons that people hate him so much to begin with.

I’m not criticizing fans for hating him. It’s college basketball, he’s a talented white kid at Duke… that’s going to happen. He pretty much signed up for it. And I myself am very very guilty of saying terrible things about players and their mothers’ sexual histories, for no good reason. But I think he’s an alright guy, and I root for him to do well.

JJ Redick is a good kid and deserves credit for his amazing basketball abilities. There is no reason for people to hate him simply because of his poems or their own jealousy. They need to get over it, because he keeps getting better as his career progresses.

JJ Redick is an amazing basketball player .. I left work early tonight just to watch him and Duke kick some Delaware State ass. And if any guy is jealous of him it must be because of his talent or the fact that he is hotter than you.

  • Hey.. J.J Redick is awesome! There is no reason for anyone to hate him.. All of you people that do.. are just plain jealous. You don’t know him personally, so why try to be cool and act like he’s done something to you.. that’s ridiculous. I know how it feels to get taunted and stuff.. it sucks.. and I’m sure all you other people out there who taunt him.. don’t know what it feels like. So, you criticizers just keep trying.. It’s only making him stronger!

My own personal theory is that the reason there are so many JJ Redick haters out there is because people are jealous that he isn’t on their team. And if you do hate him, why post things on the internet to try to make him look bad? I mean, does it give you personal satisfaction to make other people look bad? Gives your own self esteem a boost? I’m no psycologist, but if thats what it takes to make you a hppy see a therapist! Insulting other people for ridiculous reasons is not the way to go.

    JJ Page

Let’s see – J.J. was caught smoking pot but was just checking his email

Cameron Crazies always yell abuse at visiting players but JJ goes on ESPN and complains about stuff he hears.

JJ choken in big games in the NCAAs

and #1. JJ is a poor sport. After UCONN game 2004, he didnt shake their hands.

  • I am in 10th grade right now and start for my highschool AAA basketball team as the 3 point shooter, i practice everyday and people say i remind them of JJ because of my 3 point shooting and range.. look for my name in a few years.. Duke im comin!! I also thought it was pretty sweet that we both have the same middle name- but i go by mine, he doesn’t..

What would JJ write after last night’s Game 2 against Boston? Maybe something like this:

    The Pain Inside is Real

    I feel such pain
    Such pain I feel
Lights, whistles, noisemakers, a sea of green
In a sea of green I drown
    My pain is real
    My pain is green

    Timeout
    I need a timeout
    A timeout from my pain
    No more green pain
Someone blow a whistle and heal my surprise
    Heal what is real

The horn sounds, and the green fades to black
The whistle was not in time
    How should I feel?
    There is no timeout
    Now I’m out
