First of all for those jackass that don’t know where West Texas A&M University it is in the Panhandle of Texas. It won the Lone Star Conference this last football season. I live only about 20 miles from that college. You know I think it is great for WTAMU. Maybe Leaf was a bust in the NFL but he was great in College and in High School. So instead of knocking him why don’t you give the man a chance and lets just see how good he is going to do.

I think Leaf will be ok here. To me Leaf is a fascinating case study in how money and celebrity can just be the worst things in the world for some people. I mean when this guy was in high school he broke his wrist (or hand) and just cut the cast off and played anyway. In the pros he injures the labrum on his throwing arm and apparently doesn’t even realise it for weeks or months because he didn’t throw a single pass in that time. What happened to his work ethic and determination? Almost sad in a way. By the way, I know he didn’t stick in these places but everyone in Seattle, Dallas and Tampa Bay seems to vouch for him as a good guy and teammate. It’s likely he just got his act together after leaving San Diego.

Personally, I hope that Ryan Leaf hasn’t matured yet. Just think how amazing it would be if after all this time, Leaf reports to WTAM for spring workouts and has another meltdown with the media. Or hits a redshirt freshman. Or throws a water bottle at a cheerleader. There are so many possibilities, and I’ll be honest; for the sake of entertainment, I hope to see the train run right off the cliff.

He was immature and a spoiled brat after he got drafted, but most players are. I know he took it farther than most, but I can’t imagine him still having the same attitude after not having anyone kiss his ass for the past 4 years or so. Reality had to hit him at some point I would think.

It’s worth noting that college quarterbacking is the one thing we know Ryan Leaf was good at. Plus, he’s got all of Mike Price’s wisdom to pass on. If the West Texas QBs eventually find themselves up for the Alabama job, that could be really useful.

Yeah he was a gigantic bust in the pros, but the dude was a pretty great college QB; he didn’t get to be a high draft pick by accident. Maybe he actually has something to teach. Besides what the hell does West Texas A&M (that has to be a made up name, no fucking way is that actually the name of a school) have to lose?
