This AP article is all about how the ESPN reality series “Knight School” will featured the “bleeping out” of some profanity. Well, that certainly comes as a surprise. I didn’t know that Bob Knight used any kind of dirty language.
To tell you the truth, I’m really looking forward to the series… which probably means I’ll end up being let down, since it’s ESPN and all. But, as a teacher/basketball coach, I’ve really come to respect Bob Knight, as much as anyone else out there. And that’s a fairly recent development for me; that wasn’t always the case. But you just can’t argue with the way he teaches the game, the way he wins, the way he takes no shortcuts along the way. As a basketball coach, there’s never been anyone better. Granted, there are a few other issues when you’re talking about Bob Knight… but that’s a whole other conversation.
Of course, with the show, we won’t be getting the full Bob Knight experience… because 1) it’s a TV show, and 2) he’s probably not going to be as hard on a bunch of walk-ons as he’s going to be on his actual players. Still, I’m pretty excited about it.
Also, while we’re here… it was a little bit unfortunate what Bob Knight did to Dana Jacobsen yesterday… kinda funny, sure, but… not very nice. If you missed it, Dana Jacobsen was interviewing Coach Knight on Cold Pizza, and she asked him about Mike Davis’s comments that Indiana needed one of their own to be their coach. Knight interrupted her and said, “I have no interest in talking about Indiana.” She asked again. He took his earpiece out, stood up, and left.
Probably not the most professional way to handle things, but… if you’re Dana Jacobsen, I mean… you had to see that coming. You asked once, and he said quite emphatically that he wasn’t going to talk about it. Considering that it’s Bob Knight… you’ve got to assume a little bit of risk when you decide to ask it a second time. Sorry, Dana.

dana jacobsen probably won’t be plugging “Knight School” the same way she was plugging Deadspin the other week.

Dana asked once, Knight declined to discuss, and she pressed the issue. I don’t like Knight, but I think he had every right to walk out on her. Knight’s not the coach at IU anymore, and he’s not in the Big 11 either. Why should he care?
Everyone pitched a fit over Jim Gray “ambushing” Pete Rose (and I don’t consider it an ambush, but whatever), but no one says anything about Dana trying to hound Knight.

With that outrageously large teeth/gum combo she’s got going on, I don’t think anyone will be plugging Dana Jacobsen either. At least I wouldn’t…

Well maybe if I was “Bode Miller during any given competition” drunk, I’d think about it.

You wanna me see someone argue that point. Honestly, that might be the worst sentence ever put down on this site. What, did Bobby Knight have his hands around your throat while you typing that? He hasn’t done jackshit in 15 years.
As a basketball caoch, there’s never been anyone better.
Really? What about John Wooden, Dean Smith, Coach K, Roy Williams, Jim Boehiem, and whole other boatload of guys who win with style and class.

Seriously, I can argue with the way he teaches the game. There are better ways to teach it than being an overbearing jackass who throws things, attacks his players, and generally just acts like a bully to everyone. I’ll admit, he’s been successful, his offensive system is a great one, and I like that he graduates most of his players, but for the most part he’s a complete asshole. I sure as hell wouldn’t play for him, nor would I sent my hypothetical son to do so.

Doug… When I said, “as a basketball coach, there’s never been anyone better,” I meant that to indicate that I’m putting all temper-related issues aside. But the principles of the game that he teaches, his insistence that everyone graduates in four years, and how he gets the most out of all of his players… I don’t think you can argue with that. Sure, there are some very bad mistakes that he’s made, and those things are terrible. But from a basketball standpoint alone, there’s no one better. Of the guys you listed, the only one who could make a case for being better than Knight is John Wooden. Krzyzewski is in his class (and he learned everything he knows from Bob Knight)… but if you think Roy Williams is a better coach than Bob Knight, then… I’m not sure we can talk about this.

That’s why I hate the media.
She asked. He said no.
She asked again…
He left. Which was the right thing to do.
Who do these reporters think they are?

DookieStyle, that almost sounds like date rape.
Maybe Knight should’ve just laid back and enjoyed it. . .

In that pic, Bob Knight looks like he’s trying to use the force to take off some highschool cheerleaders bra. I know that’s not right, but it really does.

[...] Much thanks to The Mighty MJD who provided a sound file that perfectly exemplifies what a prince among men that guy is. Just why someone would want to send their kid to play for Coach Knight, I’ll never know. Give it a listen: [...]

I don’t know…Dana Jacobsen has some nice “bend her over, hold her hips, and run with it” look about her. She has a nice body that looks like she’d be great in bed. Just a thought.
