I have a new favorite hockey player… Tampa Bay Lightning right winger Evgeny Artyukhin. In a fight last night, he pulled Antoine Vermett’s helmet off… and then beat him in the head with it.
That’s the most creative thing anyone’s done in the NHL since Gretzky retired. The NHL is back.

Remember that time Todd Betruzzi accidentally broke some dude’s neck? Was it as awesome as that? No? Why not - is punching someone in the back of the head somehow less admirable than whaling on a guy with his own helmet?
Just play the fucking game, guys. Script a few good fights if OLN asks you to. Makes sense, considering they’re probably vying for airtime with Toughman and Backyard Wrestling.

Well, keep-in-mind, that was more than a little tongue-in-cheek… I don’t actually think it’s awesome when someone gets beat in the head with a helmet. Did make for a hell of a SportsCenter highlight, though.

I caught the sarcasm, didn’t mean to come off affronted by you. And though you see a few people saying, “Oh the violence!”, I doubt we’ll hear talking heads debating whether or not professional sports will need to be monitored by local police forces like we did a couple of years ago after the Bertruzzi debacle.

I thought there was something more entertaining about a hockey player taking another player’s helmet off and hitting him with it, than there was about a common stomp to a player laying on the ground. For this, I apologize to Marcus Vick… and I need to be more sensitive to him in my posts about the National Hockey League. Also, I’m a huge racist.
