Seems like Seton Hall can’t really go wrong here… no one in the world would be able to complain about the hiring of Jim Larranaga. He just put the finishing touches on arguably the most impressive coaching accomplishment in recent history. He might be a decent choice.
Now, I have no idea if he’s actually interested… he might be the kind of guy who really wants to stay in one place. Of course, he might also be the kind of guy who likes big fat paychecks, and certainly, no one could blame him for that. He would, however, have to agree to live in New Jersey, and I don’t know why anyone would want to do that.
If he does end up taking the offer, or some other offer, even, you’d have to feel a little bit for George Mason. Great coaches just don’t grow on trees, and it would be unfortunate for the fans to see something so great happen… and then have the rug snatched from under them like that. I’m not saying that no one alive could’ve done what Larranaga did at Mason, but it’s hard to imagine anyone stepping in and replicating that kind of success, at least right away.

The Grass isn’t always Greener Jimmy. I’d rather be a big fish than just another minnow. Larranaga doesn’t seem to have an out of control ego. Hopefully, he’ll do the right thing. But, hey I’m a Michigan State fan so George Mason can burn. Burn I tell you!!!
(just kidding)

Probably a real interesting situation for him. He’s from NYC, so northern NJ is probably close to “home”. (When he was coaching at BG, he recruited the HELL out of the Bronx. Or at least, you know, for a mid-major school in NW Ohio, he did all right.) But his first job was at UVA, so some say he wants to hang in the Virginia area.
Though I couldn’t imagine him bailing on this job until the unending line of Mason poon offers dried up.
Oh, and “great coach”?? Don’t know that I’d agree with that, but I definitely wouldn’t put him anywhere below a “very, very good coach”.

Ah, the great Colonial Athletic Assocation coaching exodus begins. UNCW’s Brad Brownell has already bolted for Wright State, thinking it’s closer to a.) his Evansville, IN, home and b.) his Big Ten dream job. Any hopes this conference had in getting anything resembling a TV deal will disappear if Larranaga bolts for Seton Hall.

I suppose I can’t blame the dude for taking the money but I think this is terrible idea. If he stays at George Mason, he’s pretty much Jesus Christ incarnate regardless of what he does for the rest of his career. A couple losing seasons at Seaton Hall and he’s gone.

Obviously Jetsgrumbler hasn’t been out to the Mason campus recently…we house 4,000 students on campus now and the Chick-fil-a is gone now that we have a Damon’s Steakhouse on campus (they didn’t agree religiously apparently). Quite a bustling campus now actually. And for the record, Jimmy isn’t going anywhere. He’s an incredible man with incredible values. He had already verbally agreed to a contract and will no doubt stick to his word. He deserves an enormous amount of credit for what he has done for this team.
