Through 29 games last year, he was responsible for 92 points, 89 rebounds, 7 assists, 17 turnovers, and 1 really suck-ass rap song. UConn forward Ed Nelson has made himself eligible for the draft… the NFL draft. So, over the span of four seasons, he’s gone from the ACC Basketball Rookie of the Year to “Hey, fuck it, let’s try football.”
He played one year of football in high school, and hasn’t played since. But his agent says he’s really good, and Jim Calhoun likes his chances… and his mom probably thinks he’s a wonderful boy, too. Best of luck to him.
And in case any of you missed it… Ed Nelson’s a rapper, too. And if you’re a queer, he’ll knock you out. Really, he will… have a listen.
Best of luck to Ed Nelson. Actually… no, I don’t mean that at all.

Did he spend any time as a running back? Even a couple of Pee-Wee games? If so, he’s got a good chance at being picked up in the middle rounds by the Broncos.

Nelson had to have been considering this for sometime. Since he wasn’t even a starter in basketball, why not try out for the UCONN footbal team — you know, if he’s that good. It wouldn’t have been that hard to make the team.
My guess is he didn’t because it would proove that he’s NOT that good.

It seems George Mason’s Jai Lewis is gonna do the same thing. That dude was pretty impressive on the basketball court and definitely has some athleticism.
Antonio Gates blazed the trail for all these guys. Probably going to be much more common, especially if they play anywhere near as good as Gates.

He’s a big fairly athletic dude, if he can catch he might be able to pull it off. That said, I’m think that Antonio Gates was a once in a lifetime thing, not a sign of what’s to come.

Who are the two best tight ends in the NFL? Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez. Both of them played college basketball (Gonzo played with Jason Kidd at Cal). I definitely think these two are exceptions to what usually happens, but its still worth a try in football if you have no future in basketball.
But Ed Nelson will not succede because, as you can see, he is white.

You know, coming back to this story, I think there was not enough attention paid to the fact that he brags about how his family enjoys beating up black people.
