During a rain delay in the White Sox/Blue Jays game, White Sox pitcher Mark Beuhrle got bored, had a look at the soaked tarp on the field, and got an idea. He went out to right-center field, took a running head start, and took a couple of headfirst slides across the tarp. That’s awesome. The fans loved it.
But the GM got all pissed off, and Beuhrle was fined by the team… Lame. You’ve got fans out there who paid a lot of money for tickets, sitting through a fucking rain delay… and Beuhrle, a guy who wasn’t even playing that day, tries to put a smile on everyone’s face, and succeeds, by the way… and he gets fined.
I guess I could understand that management would be pissed off about an injury risk, but… who’s ever gotten injured on a slip-n-slide? Just let the man have some fun.

Word is that he won’t be fined this time, but will be if he does it again.
Sucks.

it’s all fun and games until a pitcher hyperextends his throwing shoulder.

I don’t know about slip-n-slides, but I think Vince Coleman might be able to vouch for how dangerous those tarps can be.

Dear MJD,
Mark Beurhle is a reckless individual who definitely should have been fined. Slip and slides might not seem dangerous, but even the most mundane thing ever can cause an injury to star players.
