Edit: I have apparently fucked up on this… here’s what happened. A buddy of mine called me this morning and told me he heard on a local radio show that Beilein took NC State’s offer and that a formal announcement was coming tomorrow. I didn’t think twice about it. I just accepted it as true and posted it… I didn’t think my buddy was making anything up, and I still don’t… he heard what he heard, and I repeated it. I shouldn’t have. I wasn’t trying to “break” any news… you all know that’s not what I do here, and I don’t have any interest in that. At the time I posted it, I thought it already was news. I really didn’t think it was rumor or hearsay or anything like that… I thought it was just something that went down. Anyway, it’s not true, as it turns out. I’m an idiot for posting it.
So… my apologies to John Beilein, and anyone who may have read this (particularly Allison; I don’t hate you, I swear)… I’m a jackass. In fact, I’m adding this to the “Dickheads” category, referring to myself.

Son of a bitch. I’m pissed I even came to your site today MJD. This is the last thing I wanted to read. I can’t blame him for taking the money, but damn man, do it when WVU has a chance to get a legit replacement.
As a true WVU fan (not one that popped up the past 2 years), I’m deeply saddened.
Hug me…

I refuse to believe this is true. I can’t find it on ESPN, CBS Sportsline, or Sports Illustrated. Of course, if it is true, leave it to the f-ing ACC.
MJD - I love this site, but right now I think you hate me and are and trying to ruin my day/week/upcoming season.

N.C. State will always be a second rate team. They get lucky once with Valvano, and hold onto it for the rest of their lives. Just give into the fact that it doesn’t matter who your coach is you’ll always be in the Tarheels shadow!! Waldo..

If true - Welcome to the WOLFPACK!
1. Get yourself a Wolfpack red jacket!
2. Come fired up and ready to stir things up!
3. Call all the recruits and get them onboard!
And let’s have some fun for a while at the RBC!

WVU won’t be looking at Steve Lavin now, will they?

Look I grew up on the South-east-west side of Cary and have been a die hard Pack fan all my life, but we all must agree that they are gay like me. They went after all these first rate coaches like their a first rate team! Second rate maybe even third rate serve us better. We will always be chasing the superior Duke and Tarhole teams. If anyone will be in Garner this weekend, I will be shagging it up at the beach festival. Holla, BeaverShagger

msnsportsnet.com A statement from Coach B says he is staying at WVU. The only question is is that what he wants?

MJD, can you throw a guy a source please?
I just finished writing a 10 page final paper on why blogs are a good source for sports news. If you’re wrong on this, my argument is ruined.

I have searched the Web far and wide for Valvano’s career coaching record, maybe I’m not looking hard enough, but I believe once I find it it will validate a theory of mine.
The NC State alumni base has always been unhappy with any coach since Valvano’s departure (never mind the fact that the Athletic Department and a fast and loose book writer screwed him out of a lifetime contract), Les Robinson deserved it because the 8/9 seed play-in game of the ACC tournament was his perpetual domain. Herb Sendek never gave them the magic that Jimmy V had, and that’s not fair. Valvano made three amazing tournament runs in 1983 and 1987, taking home one national and two conference titles. Great icing on the cake, but the body of his work is something different. He had a mediocre record in conference play, losing almost as many games as he won. His teams were never the powerhouse that David Thompson’s 74 team was.
I believe that the prestige Wolfpack fans imagine they have on the hardwood is a result of a few years of dominating an infant ACC in the 1950’s, a pair of national titles, and a trademark on the “Cinderella story”. Because of this, they think they’re as prestigious a program as Duke or Carolina, and that’s just not true.

MJD, I am far from one to tell you how to blog. However, the second I read your post I found it weird. I found myself looking through it again for a link to another story, and checking the words to find out at least where you heard it. I at least though you’d attribute it to somewhere.
Oh well, live and learn. I wouldn’t want this site anyother way. Keep up the good work.

Awwww… Thanks for the shout out. All is forgiven.
It’s hard enough to be a WV fan/alum/native in ACC country… pretty please don’t scare me like that again. I will resume the wasing of my company’s time on the gospel that is MJD. and deadspin. and edsbs. and tuckermax. and the phat phree.
It truly is amazing that I still have a job.
