I hope he wears the The Houston Texans will be deciding between Reggie Bush and Mario Williams as the first pick of the NFL draft… oddly, I thought this had been the case all along. I didn’t know anyone else was in play… but, you know, I suppose we can’t go a day without manufacturing some sort of draft news.

I actually feel like Mario Williams is the safer pick. This, of course, is based in two or three minutes of footage I’ve seen on the NFL Network. There are still questions about whether or not Reggie Bush can do the job he’ll be expected to do… like carrying the ball 25 times a game. There appears to be no doubt, however, that Mario Williams can do the job he’s expected to do, and kill quarterbacks.

That’s not to say that I’m not a believer in Reggie Bush… I am. I can only recall one college running back in my lifetime that made me say “Holy fuck” out loud, like Reggie Bush did… that was Bo Jackson. I absolutely believe Bush can be an every down tailback, and I believe he’s strong and elusive enough to take any hit that might come his way. But there are scouts who have those questions, scouts who pay a little closer attention than I do. No one seems to have too many questions about Mario Williams, though.

If I was in Texans GM Charley Casserly’s shoes… I’d probably… well, I’d call Matt Millen and ask him what he would do, and then I’d go the other way. Of course, Millen would probably recommend Sinorice Moss, so that might not help much. I dunno… gun to my head, I’ll go Bush. He can be a legitimate game-changer. It’s a little riskier, but… if you hit, the reward is massive.

Considering RBs most likely have a shorter shelf-life than linemen, Williams or Ferguson makes more sense and Dominick Davis is a pretty good back in his own right. Why not trade down with the Titans or Jets for extra picks? Reggie alone isn’t going to save the team (he won’t even have an o-line to run behind); they have plenty of holes to fill and RB isn’t really one of them.

At least the locals can try to move on from the “Draft Vince Young” crap. It has escalated to people buying full-page ads in the Houston Chronicle to lobby for VY. Even local furniture pimp Mattress Mac of Gallery Furniture is unleashing veiled threats that he’ll pull sponsorship when he can in 2 years.

I can live with Reggie, but if the Texans don’t get defense at the top of the 2nd round, then they will lose 35-24 instead of 35-14 every week. Last I checked, they couldn’t stop a wet fart. The problem is the defense, NOT the offensive line. The o-line improved after mid-season to the point where Carr wasn’t getting sacked at an insane rate.

Bouj….Don’t blame the defense, we all know that wet farts are the hardest farts to stop.

I don’t get why they’d go Bush when they already have a really good running back in Dom Davis. Why not go with D’Brickashaw Ferguson, who’s a can’t miss left tackle prospect and would fill their biggest need? If they don’t fix that offensive line poor David Carr is going to get killed. Bush is going to be a GREAT player, and I guess I can see why they’d draft him, but they don’t need him right now. I suppose Mario Williams wouldn’t be bad either, but I don’t think he’s any better a prospect than D’Brick and doesn’t fill as urgent a need.

  • I don’t think the Texans expect Bush to carry the ball 25 times a game. Maybe he’ll carry the ball 10-15 times and get thrown to 5-10 times in a game. The rest of the time Davis will carry the ball, which will be a nice change of pace for the offense. The Texans need help all over the field and it makes sense to take the best available talent. The only place the Texans have decided they don’t need much help is with QB and that takes VY off the board.

  • I call bullshit on the “Bush or Williams” talk, like last year when the 49ers were supposedly leaning towards Aaron Rodgers over Alex Smith.

It smells an awful like a trade overture, which, of course, bears an olfactory resemblance to the excrement of male cattle.

Bo Jackson was in college 20 years ago, old man.
