I guess some Sports Emmys were given out the other day… the good news is that TNT’s Inside the NBA won the award for Outstanding Studio Show. The bad news is that Joe Buck won the award for play-by-play.
I just… don’t… get it. I don’t understand why people like Joe Buck. I don’t know anyone who thinks he’s good, I don’t know anyone who enjoys him… I’m not even sure that I know anyone who doesn’t want to punch him in the face.
There are two things that I can’t stand when done by a play-by-play person, and they always seem to go hand-in-hand… 1) believe that they are a reason that people are watching, and 2) interject their own opinion. Joe Buck does both. He’s got Troy Aikman sitting next to him, and he can’t just leave it to Aikman to provide the football opinion… he’s got to do it himself. My favorite was when he was watching a team move up the field at the end of a half in their 2-minute offense, and he asked, in all seriousness, “Hey, why don’t they just do this all the time?”
That award should be Marv Albert’s, every year.

I can’t imagine a reason not to give the Emmy to Vin Scully every year, and then after he dies award it to him posthumously for the rest of time.
If I was walked into a room, and behind one table there’s Joe Buck, and on another table there’s a million dollars, and I can either take the money or beat the shit out of Joe Buck…gotta say I’d beat the shit out of Joe Buck.

I wonder if Joe Buck really believes in the products he advertises? I am having a terrible problem with a convertible top on a brand new (problem first reported to them at 600 miles. Car now has 2,000 miles on it). This was purchased at Suntrup VW because I trusted them based on the commercials of Joe and Carol Buck. Suntrup has turned out to be the absolute worst I have ever encountered in Dealer response. Don’t the Buck’s realize that this kind of un-service reflects on their good name, and that of Jack Buck’s memory as well? Or, is it just, endorse anything for a buck! Tim Sayers/St. Louis
