It looks like I’m going to need some new material when I make fun of the Raptors from now on. Gone are the purple uniforms, and in are these sharp-looking duds. Kinda dapper, I gotta say. And it’s a welcome change, because when you combine purple uniforms and a cartoon dinosaur, you’re just begging to be ridiculed.
These pictures are from, inexplicably, Mo Peterson’s myspace page. The team hasn’t even had the customary press conference to announce them yet. Oops. I have a feeling Morris Peterson’s going to get an earful from a PR person tomorrow. Oh, and I picked up the link at SLAMOnline, a site I visit frequently. So big thanks to them.
I wholeheartedly support the move, and really, they didn’t have a choice. They have a new general manager, they’ll have a new style of play, but none of it was going to work if they kept trotting out there in purple. It affects a man. A lawyer can prepare an airtight cause, but if he shows up in the courtroom wearing a bright purple suit with a cartoon dinosaur stitched on the lapel, it’s all going to fall apart. Purple is fine for Grimace or a gay Teletubby; I have nothing against purple as a color. But on a sports uniform, purple is not to be respected. This is something that had to be done.

I don’t know. I mean, I certainly wouldn’t want to mess with Ray Lewis. Maybe the Raptors should have been stabbing people and dancing like idiots as they entered the stadium.

The purple unis doesn’t seem to have had too much of an effect on the Lakers. It could be that Toronto’s players have simply sucked.

Actually those pics are photoshopped by some guys from the RealGM boards with time on their hands.
The pics were shown on PTI earlier today as well, Wilbon said they got it from Mo Peterson’s alleged MySpace page.
These aren’t the official jerseys, but they reflect what’s been rumoured for them to look like, with the removal of purple from the jerseys and having a White/Red home jersey and a black alternate jersey. The red jerseys that they’ve been wearing as alternates for the past 2 seasons are the new ‘away’ jerseys.

As a Raptors fan I can tell you those look highly photoshopped, mainly because I saw that same pic in a magazine a few months ago with the old jersey.

Don’t feel too bad mjd, the Worldwide Leader in Sports and one of the best bball publications didn’t know better either.
Either way, the new uni’s will most likely look like those photoshop creations anyways.
Plus your point still stands – there’s no more purple for the Raps. Too bad nobody in the States will see them…

Bosh has had a mini-for like a year now, but JT’s right the new unis will probably look something like that anyway. I can’t believe this made PTI, slow day I guess.
